KOOZY Press Release

36,000 bees in a jacuzzi

Experimental UK pop-proggers Kitten Pyramid are pleased to announce third single KOOZY, released on December 11, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Anthony Hopkins, Elvis and a Shark in their video. This is the title track and third single from the Burton-Upon-Trent band’s upcoming album KOOZY!!, due Spring 2021.

The song was inspired by Kitten Pyramid’s producer Nick Brine’s story of discovering 36,000 bees in his Jacuzzi in Spain. The single’s cover is an illustration of Nick created by celebrated skateboard artist Josh Jameson.

“I wanted to write a tonic to this year’s gloom, something uplifting and joyful, to reflect the reality of 6 hives of 600 bees co-existing in harmony inside a jacuzzi, to then obediently leave for the Spanish hills when the queen decided (as far as they were aware) to leave.” said Kitten Pyramid writer, Scott Milligan.

“I decided the video should represent everything outrageous and beautiful about our tenancy on Earth, all through downloaded instagram stories, from a video of a monkey having a great time being washed in the sink, to a Panda joyfully eating a carrot, to Leonardo Di Caprio body popping at a wedding. I wanted lots of dancing, and strong females in action to constitute the worker bees and their Queen” he continued.

“The size of the swarm was so big that they had to cordon off the road, we had no idea the bees where even in there, we just thought it was the jacuzzi buzzing” said Nick Brine, producer of the track and now part of the Kitten Pyramid line-up as bass player. He also produced their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Uh-Oh!’

Nick was recently featured in Rockfield: The Studio on the Farm documentary after working closely with the likes of Oasis, The Stone Roses, The Darkness, Beta Band and the Super Furry Animals at Rockfield Studios.

So, no stranger to strange.

Other track titles suggested by Nick included Bee Hear Now and Definitely Maybee.

“36,000 bees crossing the road
Guided by aliens waving their smoke
Out the jacuzzi and back to the trees
Checking for bullet holes
Checking their knees“

Bio: Kitten Pyramid began as a collective in 2010, the brainchild of singer-songwriter Scott Milligan and initially ranged from two to 20 members. In 2013 they released their debut album Uh-Oh!, followed by the EP High Five Scuba Dive, with Procol Harum’s late guitarist Dave Ball featuring on both releases (and as the Grim Reaper in the video for English Rosa). In 2015 they’d caught the ear of 6Music presenter and performer Tom Robinson, who took them out on his UK tour. Kitten Pyramid launched Uh-Oh! with a tour of psychiatric hospitals (they were followed by The Guardian for two days), and have featured in MOJO, Classic Rock and Prog magazines, been Sunday Brunch’s Single Of The Week on Channel 4 and were termed “fittingly barking” and “Hunky Dory with a dash of Syd” for their marvellously left-of-field progressive pop. Second album Koozy !! is due early next year and was recorded in Konk, Rockfield Studios, Leeders Vale and a farmhouse in Leek. The band features members of The Leisure Society.

“An XTC-Beatles-Beefheart hybrid one minute, a moodily blue Pink Floyd the next” Prog

“If British psychedelia is your bag, this is your new favourite band” The Independent

“Picasso could have been at the controls” The Guardian

KOOZY will be available to view on YouTube on December 11, via Flip Flop Records and is produced by Nick Brine (Oasis, Stone Roses, Ash, Teenage Fanclub, The Darkness).
